Cordata
Bellingham's newest neighborhood -- master-planned, diverse, and still growing.
About
Cordata
Cordata is the new kid on Bellingham’s block. Named for a small flower that grows well in the rain, the neighborhood was carved out of the old Guide Meridian boundaries in 2010 to reflect its rapidly changing identity. Where farmland and big-box retail once dominated, a master-planned community has taken shape with walking trails, bike lanes, and a 25-acre flagship park that includes Washington State’s first outdoor parkour course.
Who Lives Here
The neighborhood draws a broad mix of residents: young families attracted by relatively affordable new construction, retirees in one of four 55+ communities, and Whatcom Community College students. It is one of the most ethnically diverse areas in Bellingham.
The Tradeoff
The tradeoff is that Cordata lacks the walkable village character of neighborhoods like Fairhaven or the Lettered Streets. You will likely need a car for most things. But for those who prioritize newer housing, good parks, and easy freeway access over historic charm, Cordata delivers real value.
