Roosevelt

Bellingham's most populous neighborhood -- affordable, central, and improving fast.

About

Roosevelt

Roosevelt is the workhorse neighborhood of Bellingham — the most populated area in the city, sitting at the base of Alabama Hill just east of I-5. Once wide pastureland and farms, it transitioned through waves of mid-century development and still carries that eclectic DNA. You’ll find blocks of tidy 1950s ramblers next to older Craftsman homes, apartment complexes, and pockets of light industrial use. The neighborhood is genuinely diverse by Bellingham standards.

Trails and Parks

The Railroad Trail is the neighborhood’s connective tissue, running along the northern edge and linking Whatcom Falls Park to the bay trails. Barkley Village, while technically adjacent, functions as Roosevelt’s commercial anchor with grocery stores, restaurants, and shops within easy biking distance. Roosevelt Park itself is a well-used community hub bordering the Boys and Girls Club.

The Tradeoffs

The tradeoffs are real: freeway noise is noticeable near I-5, and pride of ownership varies block by block. But property values are rising steadily, homes are getting renovated, and the central location plus trail access make it increasingly attractive. For buyers priced out of Sehome or South Hill, Roosevelt offers genuine value.
